What Is In Your Bag

Camera Bag

Those of us who are into photography, generally over a period of time we will collect quite a lot of photographic equipment. Personally I prefer a backpack to transport my gear as I find it easier to carry than a shoulder type bag. As we collect more equipment our bag will be carrying many valuable items, so make sure your bag is of good quality. If we purchase an excellent quality bag it will last many years, in fact I still have an old trunk style bag I have had for over 30 years.

Protecting your Lenses

Protecting your lenses is a very big consideration in your photography. Firstly if you love photography you will have quite a lot of money outlayed on your gear and most of that outlay will be on your lenses. Many photographers make big mistakes here, they will purchase expensive lenses and then get cheap filters to put on them to protect the front element, but the cheap filters will degrade the image.

City Park Photography at Night

The Brisbane Wheel

Southbank is generally a hive of activity on the banks of the Brisbane River, one of the highlights is the Brisbane Wheel, an extremely large ferris wheel with spectacular lighting, occasionally the colors of the lights on the wheel are changed giving it a different look. The above image of the ferris wheel was captured with an exposure of 6 seconds, ISO100, using a tripod and remote release.

Water Movement Photography

Natural Bridge Falls

The movement of water can help to create interesting images. In order to capture images such as these it is essential to use a tripod, as shutter speeds close to 1 second or greater will be required. Generally a shutter speed of 1/8 of a second will start to blur the moving water, but with a tripod any shutter speeds up to 1/2 minute can be tried.

High Speed Electronic Flash Synchronization (Flash At Any Shutter Speed)

One of the major disadvantages of older cameras is the limitation of using flash at high shutter speeds, many cameras will limit the maximum shutter speed with flash to a shutter speedd range of 1/60 to 1/500 of a second. With more recent cameras and flash units this limitation has now been overcome. This option can be very important when you wish to balabce the level of light from the flash and the natural daylight.
