Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM Lens
The Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM Autofocus Lens offers a wider focal length zoom range than the f/2.8 lens and may suit photographers who do not need the larger aperture lens.
This is a professional lens and provides excellent performance with dust and moisture resistant construction.
The lens has a constant aperture of, f/4 over the full focal length range and is very suitable for photographers who do not need the larger f/2.8 aperture of the more expensive lenses. This f/4, 24-105mm lens exhibits a very high performance over its entire focal length range.
If you are keen on very low light photography, then get the EF 24-70mm, f/2.8L USM zoom lens with the constant aperture of f/2.8 or even move to one of the prime lenses with a larger aperture of f/1.4. A prime lens at f/1.4 is far more suitable for low light photography, there is effectively 3 stops difference between lenses at f/4 and f/1.4 which makes a huge difference in low light.
Lenses at apertures of f/4 do not offer the same opportunities for selective focus as lenses of f/1.4. In view of the aperture short comings with these lenses, they do make an excellent choice when travelling as they are generally very light and compact, being easy to use and handle.
Any images from this lens can be stunning with good techniques and practices. The lens does offer advantages when hand held, as it has image stabilisation to help reduce camera shake, the lens is also one of Canons high quality L-series lenses. Bear in mind that image stabilisation does not help with subject movement, only camera movement.
Personally I do prefer a lens covering this normal focal length range to have an aperture larger than f/4 but this is just a personal preference due to my liking of the creative use of selective focus in my photographs.
